I have a theory: Love isn't God. God is Love.

This title may shock you a bit. Not because of the controversial topic, but because I used the word God. Yep, I said it.

Something has shifted in me. I’ve let go of my hangups with the word. And I think that shift is love.

This past week was a tough one for about half the country. Eight. years ago when this happened, I cried so hard my youngest thought someone died! A lot has changed in eight years. including me. Including my hangups.

I was lucky enough to have a large group coaching with my teacher Russ Hudson this week. He took us through our seven-minute practice so beautifully, so present, with 100 people on the call. You could feel the love. I could only imagine how in-person would have changed the intensity. This is no doubt true. But it didn’t change the sentiment, nor the connection. We were all connected. Held in love. This helped me to shift how to handle a stressful week.

So let’s get back to this whole theory of Love is God. What does she mean? How could God not be love but love could be God?

Of course, God is love. That is all we ever hear. But if we flip this concept and consider that Love just might be God, how differently would we see the world? We would see God everywhere which is exactly my point. This Energy, the Life Force, the Universe is everywhere and so is the energy of love.

Can we even define love? When I Googled the definition, Dictionary.com had 14 definitions. AI said it was a complex emotion and “Love is studied in many scientific disciplines, including psychology, biology, neuroscience, anthropology, and sociology.” Science left out spirituality where I would imagine it is “studied” daily. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

My whole point is love is everywhere, even on the “other” side. This has helped me tremendously this week. Love is everywhere. By the way, let’s also reframe the “other.” We don’t get to point fingers on other-ness yet still use the word to describe half of the country. Our job is to get curious, in love and fill our hearts with peace and God, connecting with one another on a deeper level. There is so much more to life, to love, to God, than politics.

So today, when you witness love, feel its presence, intensity, attraction, affection, sweetness, kindness and sustenance. Without love where would we be? Not here. Not now. And maybe, when you think of Love you get curious if really God (Energy, Life Force, the Universe) is showing up.

Oh, and maybe let go of your hangups with the word. I know, I’m trying.
